About the Artist
Raised near the Jersey Shore, I tried my hand at painting and other arts during high school and junior college. As “life got in the way”, those endeavors took a back seat.
I moved with my husband and two sons to Ohio in the late 80s. After my sons were raised, my sister gave me paints and brushes as a gift and encouraged me to resume painting.
I did not have formal art training. I took art classes at Kent State and at Akron University’s adult education division. I currently study with Christopher Leeper, a professional artist in Canfield, OH (www.christopherleeper.com).
My husband has been very supportive of my painting. He set up a studio for me, and he builds frames for most of my work. He also serves as my “in house critic”.
I paint in a representational style. My subjects usually are landscapes, historic buildings, still life, and portraits. I have had commissions for paintings of people’s homes, pets, and even long vanished buildings.
I paint primarily in oil on canvas or board, and occasionlly in watercolors. Most of my work is done in my home studio, with sporadic forays into plein air painting.
My paintings are available for purchase in the Fine Arts Sales Gallery at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, OH. I also accept commissions.
Friends in my art class encouraged me to try miniatures. I have found them be be both challenging and enjoyable. They provide a change from the larger works I usually paint. I have had miniatures accepted by the Seaside Art Gallery in Nags Head, NC; the Heartland Art Guild in Paola, KS; the Miniature Painters, Sculptors, and Engravers Society in Washington, DC; and the Miniature Art Society of Florida in Dunedin, FL.
